text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--nv-site-bg);\"><i>A complete retrospective from Delvaux&rsquo;s first work to his last \u2026<\/i><\/b><\/p><p>A major artist, <strong>Paul Delvaux (1897-1994) <\/strong>developed a distinctive universe featuring strong iconographic elements that are repeated from one work to the next, like a pictorial conversation. Thanks to the exhibition <em>Les Mondes de Paul Delvaux<\/em>, which brings together over 150 works and objects, the dialogue is resumed once again, by playing a game of visual ricochets between paintings and drawings.<br \/><br \/>Following on from the major exhibition held at the Belgian Royal Museums of Fine Arts in 1997 to mark the centenary of Paul Delvaux&rsquo;s birth, this <strong>retrospective <\/strong>is a unique opportunity to see the painter&rsquo;s world unfold<strong> from the first to the last work (1920-1986)<\/strong>. The itinerary, based on the <strong>themes dear to the great artist,<\/strong> disregards the strict chronology of his work, opening up a whole new field of interactions. While the connection with <strong>Ren\u00e9 Magritte <\/strong>or <strong>Giorgio De Chirico<\/strong> may be obvious from his links with Surrealism, it is less so with other artists. It&rsquo;s a little-known fact that Delvaux took an interest in <strong>Amedeo<\/strong> <strong>Modigliani<\/strong>, whose work encouraged the painter, still a beginner, to fully embrace nudity. Subsequently, Delvaux proved to be close to Expressionism, with little-known links to <strong>Constant Permeke<\/strong> and <strong>Gustave De Smet<\/strong>. Delvaux&rsquo;s interest in Antiquity recalls his training with <strong>Constant Montald<\/strong> and creates a significant link with <strong>Pablo<\/strong> <strong>Picasso<\/strong>.
